I’m doing a workshop at the famous London Whitechapel Gallery, at 11a.m. Saturday 12 October, entitled ’.‘King Mob and the Situationist International.
King Mob was initially a coming together in London of members of the English section of the Situationist InternationaI and like-minded individuals from Newcastle associated with the anti-art magazine, Icteric, and the Black Hand Gang. Following Guy Debord’s expulsion of the English members of the SI in December 1967, the King Mob Echo was co-founded in April 1968 by former SI member, Chris Gray and ‘friends from the north’, Dave and Stuart Wise. Based on the recent publication of original materials documenting the history of the group, produced in collaboration with ex-King Mobber Dave Wise, the presentation will attempt to show how these ideas still have a power to provocatively invigorate and open up new directions of thought and action emanating from a subversive critique of culture. The workshop will be presented by Dave Black. Hosted by Chronos Publications.
The gallery says ‘Come early to avoid disappointment’. The event is part of the Anarchist Bookfair in London (not to be confused with the London Anarchist Bookfair, which was held every October between 1981 and 2017).
Also on the day check out the Chronos stall at Rough Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Road E1 6LA, which will be selling King Mob, Situationist, and other books.
Sadly, Leeds too far away to get there.
